Breakdown
Angel Villalona signed as an non-drafted free agent on August 16, 2006, three days after he turned 16-years-old. Although he is still a very raw player with plenty of flaws, the Giants have been fairly adamant on moving him through the system at a fairly steady pace. That can be seen as he spent nearly the entire 2008 season as a 17-year-old in Single-A with the Augusta GreenJackets. Despite his young age, he has shown outstanding potential at the plate. His on-base skills need tuning, but he's still young and he'll get better with age. Hitting 17 home runs at any level is quite an accomplishment, but doing so when you're about 3-4 years younger than the majority of the competition is pretty remarkable. Although he's listed at 200 lbs. on MiLB.com, he's believed to weigh considerably more (somewhere North around 240). His size will likely prevent him from playing third base as a professional and will likely be a permenent first baseman. He reminds me a lot of Miguel Cabrera.

2009 Outlook

Although he spent an entire season with the Augusta GreenJackets, he could still be sent back there. But the Giants don't look to be interested in holding him back at all, which likely means he'll start the 2009 season with the San Jose Giants.
