Breakdown
Carlos Triunfel signed as a non-drafted free agent on September 23, 2006 with the Seattle Mariners. The most amazing thing about Triunfel is that he's been able to hold his own in Advanced-A for the past year-and-a-half despite being 17 and 18-years-old while playing there. He doesn't currently hit for much power, but most believe he will eventually. The greatest aspect of Triunfel's game is his defense. Like current Mariners shortstop Yunieski Betancourt, Triunfel has great range to go along with an incredibly strong arm but he has problems with routine plays. Triunfel's glove does need work, but his arm and range are very attractive at shortstop. Triunfel now has 704 plate appearances with the High Desert Mavericks, the Mariners High-A affiliate, and despite being only 19-years-old, he is probably ready for Double-A.

2009 Outlook

Even though he's so young, he is probably ready for Double-A action. Triunfel should be with the West Tenn Diamond Jacks in 2009. He could repeat both Double-A and Triple-A and still only be 23 come opening day in 2013. The Mariners definitely have options with Triunfel and are in no need to rush him.
