Breakdown
Frederick Freeman was drafted by the the Atlanta Braves in the second round of the 2007 draft. He is a big first baseman with a lot of potential both at the plate as well on defense. He was drafted at 17-years-old and held his own as an 18-year-old in the Sally League last season. He has a similar body frame to current Braves first baseman Casey Kotchman. He is pretty advanced for his age but will probably be moved slowly through the system. Freeman surprised everyone last season with his second-half surge. In his first full season, which again was at 18-years-old, Freeman hit a respectable .285/.339/.484 with 32 extra-base hits and 44 RBI in the first half. In the second half, Freeman hit a ridiculous .349/.418/.562 with 36 extra-base hits and 51 RBI. His second-half surge is very uncommon for a player his age, which is why so many are intrigued with Freeman heading into the 2009 season.

2009 Outlook

At just 19-years-old, it's hard to imagine him being ready for High-A ball, but he is. He should be in the Carolina League with the Myrtle Beach Pelicans in 2009.
