Breakdown
The Oakland Athletics drafted Trevor Cahill in the 2nd round of the 2006 draft. He was one of the top prep school arms in the draft but after a battle with strep throat made him loose 10 lbs and 6 mph on his fastball and teams concerned about his scholarship offer from Dartmouth, the A's snatched Cahill when he was still available with the 66th overall pick. It's been a great choice ever since. Cahill gained back his velocity and ended up signing with the Athletics. Through 4 stops, Cahill has a 22-9 record to go along with a 2.68 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 10 K/9 ratio. He has a great two-seam fastball that sits comfortably in the low-90's along with one of the best curves (actually knuckle-curves) in the Minor League ranks. He also mixes in a plus change-up and hard slider which gives him a great Major League caliber repertoire. Cahill has yet to pitch in Triple-A but represented the United States in both the Futures Game and Olympics last summer. With injuries to multiple Athletics starters, Cahill will open the 2009 season as the A's #2 starter.
