Breakdown
Santos Arias signed with the Twins as a non-drafted free agent on February 9, 2005. After spending time in the Dominican Summer League, he joined the GCL Twins in 2007 posting solid numbers in his first season of baseball in the states. Last season, Arias began the season in Extended Spring Training and was destined to join the Elizabethton Twins rotation in June. But after Michael McCardell was placed on the DL in late April, the Beloit Snappers needed another arm. They called upon Santos to take his spot, and he delivered. He was 2-3 with a 2.22 ERA and a 1.11 WHIP in 9 starts before the All Star Break. After the break, he started to develop fatigue and was placed in the bullpen. As a reliever, he was 0-2 with a 2.57 ERA but had a 1.48 WHIP. He then spent time as the teams closer, recording 4 saves in the month of August. Santos does not have great size as a pitcher, but he's certainly proving that he's a prospect that should be taken seriously. The only question is does he fit in as a starter or as a reliever? Personally, I'd like to see him stay a starter where his control is much better, which is evident of his 1.17 WHIP as a starter.

2009 Outlook
Santos should be pitching with the Miracle in the Florida State League either as a starter or a reliever.
