On Friday night, RHP Carlos Silva (9-12, 4.30) will face LHP Kason Gabbard (5-1, 3.83).
On Saturday night, RHP Boof Bonser (5-9, 4.77) will face RHP Kameron Loe (5-9, 5.80).
On Sunday afternoon, LHP Johan Santana (12-9, 3.02) will face RHP Kevin Millwood (8-9, 5.63)
The Twins took 2 of 3 against the Rangers in May. The same 3 pitchers pitched for the Twins. Silva gave up 7 runs in just 4 1/3 innings pitched. Johan Santana dominated the Rangers and picked up 13 strikeouts in 7 innings. Bonser also pitched well allowing just 2 runs in his 5 innings. In that series, Justin Morneau and Torii Hunter carried the Twins. Morneau went 5-13 with 3 home runs and 7 runs batted in. Hunter went 3-11 with 4 RBI's. Although I'm not a big fan of RBI's for a personal statistic (it's more of a team stat in my opinion more than an individual stat), you can't argue with your #5 and 6 hitters (at the time) combining for 11 of the teams total 16 runs batted in.
Twins News
- The Twins announced that they will call up Garrett Jones prior to Friday's game against the Rangers. Jones will fill Ramon Ortiz's spot on the roster who was traded on Wednesday.
- The Twins also claimed infielder Chris Basak off of waivers from the New York Yankees. Basak was hitting .254/.306/.390. He has a little bit of power with 7 home runs (not a lot, but a little bit). But I don't expect him to be much more than a AAA filler right now.
- The Twins (for the time being) look to be holding off on a decision to place either Jason Kubel or Jason Bartlett on the DL.
- Unfortunately, the Twins were not able to strike a deal with 5th round pick, Nathan Striz. Striz will now go on to pitch for the North Carolina Tarheels.
