Twins fall 9-4 to Mariners

The offense came on late for the Twins, but the damage was already done for the Twins. Matt Garza struggled in his 2nd go around with the Mariners in a week. He gave up 7 runs which all came off of 4 home runs. He allowed 2 home runs to Raul Ibanez and one apiece to Richie Sexson and Kenji Johjima.

Garza exited in the 3rd inning and Carmen Cali came on in relief. The southpaw pitched 3.2 great innings of relief for the Twins. He gave up 2 hits and a walk butstruck out 2 batters as well. Matt Guerrier gave up 2 runs in the 7th, but the runs didn't make a difference in the game.

The Twins got some great hitting from the "M&M Boys" as they combined to go 5-8 with 2 runs scored, 2 doubles, and an RBI. Mauer's opposite-field double in the 6th inning was his first hit since last Wednesday (against the Mariners), breaking an 0-13 skid. Michael Cuddyer also pitched in with 2 RBI's as well.

A few batters went hittless including the usuall Rondell White and Nick Punto with Alexi Casilla joining them as well.

Torii Hunter went 1-4 with a single. As did Tommy Watkins. Mike Redmond hit an RBI double to give the Twins their first run of the game in the second inning.

Scott Baker will try to continue his success against the Mariners as he faces left-hander Jarrod Washburn for his second consecutive start in a row. Hopefully Baker's rematch won't result in the same way as Matt Garza's on Monday. In Baker's last start, he gave up just one run (a home run) in 6 2/3 innings against the Mariners. Washburn gave up 2 runs over 7 innings but still lost his 10th game of the year.
