Breakdown
The Kansas City Royals took Mike Moustakas with the 2nd overall pick of the 2007 draft. Originally drafted as a shortstop, Moustakas projects to be either a third baseman or corner outfielder in the pro's. He has a great bat that projects him to hit somewhere between 3-5 in any lineup. He struggled in the beginning of the 2008 season, but hit .321/.392/.557 with 13 home runs in the second half. He lead the Midwest League in home runs (22) at just 19-years-old and finished in the top 5 in Slugging % and top 10 in RBI. He struck out 86 times, which for a 19-year-old is not terrible, but if he can get better control of the plate, his OPS should start creaping towards .900 instead of sitting near .800. Moustakas along with Alex Gordon, Billy Butler, and Eric Hosmer have Kansas City Royals fans feeling really good about their future.
