Breakdown
When the Chicago Cubs selected Josh Vitters with the 3rd pick in the 2007 draft, they were getting a very polished, well-rounded ball player and he's been just that. Vitters has a great approach at the plate and can hit for both power and average. He still has work to do on his defense, but the Cubs are happy with his improvements there. Vitters has potential to be a very good #3 hitter. His combination of high average/on-base percentage and plus power is the reason the Cubs are ready to pencil him into their lineup sometime in the next few years. With Aramis Ramirez and Derek Lee manning the corners for the Cubs, there's no reason to rush Vitters to the Majors. But if needed, Vitters is a player that could probably handle being aggressively moved. But remember, he will be 19-years-old in 2009 and will likely be with his first full-season team. We'll have to see how he handles around twice as many games and at-bats before getting too far ahead of ourselves. But with a talent like Vitters, it's hard not to.
